‘Full Catastrophe
Living’ by Jon Kabat-Zinn. This is based on Dr Kabat-Zinn’s
extensive experience running the Stress Reduction Clinic at the
University of Massachusetts Medical Centre's in the USA. They run
courses helping people with chronic pain and stress to manage their
lives.
‘Mindfulness-Based
Cognitive Therapy for Depression: A New Approach to Preventing Relapse’
by Zindel V Segel, Mark G Williams, John D Teasdale.
The above two books are the most
directly aligned with the approach we take and are well worth buying if
you can manage to.
‘The Breathing
Book’ by Donna Fahri. Many of our health problems stem from, and
are exacerbated by, poor breathing, This book offers a thorough and
excellent look at how we breathe, problems we may have and their
remedies. Includes exercises with very good instructions.
‘Heal Thy Self’
- lessons on Mindfulness in medicine by Saki Santorelli. Saki
Santorelli is a colleague of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s and they founded a very
successful stress reduction clinic in Massachusetts USA. (Published by
Bell Tower 2000)
Jan Sadler is a woman
who has some good tape packs and has written a very good book called ‘Natural
Pain Relief’. This is particularly good on pacing. (Element Books)
‘Pain - the
science of suffering’ by Patrick Wall. This is an interesting book
from a scientific point of view. Patrick Wall has been one of the major
researchers in the area of pain for over 40 years and was a leading
authority on the subject prior to his recent death.
‘Coping
Successfully with Pain’ by Neville Shone. Sheldon Press.
‘Chronic Pain: The
Complete Guide to Relief’ by Arthur C Klein. Pub, Constable in
conjunction with The Daily Telegraph.
This is an excellent book based on a survey done of 1000 people who had
devised methods to deal with chronic pain syndrome. It includes lots of
good practical advice including some very simple physical exercises.
‘Finding a Joyful
Life in the Heart of Pain’ by Darlene Cohen. A meditative approach
